Village Fitness: A Guide to Our Facility Reopening Plan

Thanks to the recent change in guidelines for fitness centers issued by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Village Fitness is excited to announce that we will be welcoming our members back. Watch the short video below to hear from Jason Usry, Facility Director for Village Fitness, on the precautions we’re taking to ensure our members can safely begin resuming their fitness routines.

How We’re Easing Back In to Protect Our Members and Staff

While we are thrilled to be able to reopen our doors and welcome you back into the facility, we are asking for members to join us in implementing new safety protocols important for protecting everyone’s health and safety. Read on for some new procedures, updates on class schedules and other frequently asked questions that will help us all be prepared for a successful opening together.

Has Village Fitness implemented new cleaning and sanitizing protocols?

Your Village Fitness team has been hard at work introducing new measures to help make our facilities a safe destination to maintain your health. We have installed a sneeze guard at our front desk to help mitigate close contact interactions, and have added several new hand sanitizing stations throughout the club for ease of access. We also will not be collecting and storing keys at the front desk as an extra measure of precaution. Additionally, we are adding two hours in the mornings and evenings to our existing daily sanitizing routine. Finally, we will be treating the facility every other week with My Shield sanitizing solution, a non-toxic, hospital grade formula that kills germs on contact and continues to do so for several weeks.

How will social distancing requirements be enforced at Village Fitness?

Your Village Fitness team members have reorganized our facility to allow for six feet spacing between pieces of equipment, and our maximum capacities for individual spaces have been temporarily changed:

– 24/7 Strength & Cardio Area: 15
– Small Group Area: 5
– Team Training Turf: 15
– Cycle Studio: 10
– Large Group Studio (upstairs): 12
– Barre Studio: 8
– Yoga Studio: 10
– Pool: 12
– Infrared Sauna: 2

We will also be requiring a minimum 6 foot distance between members in group fitness classes.

Are there any guidelines for the use of face masks when Village Fitness reopens?

We understand that the use of masks may make it difficult for our trainers and members to breathe properly during strenuous exercise. While we will not require that members wear masks during workouts, we will be enforcing a six foot distance between members at all times. Trainers and other staff members will have masks with them at all times so that they can quickly put them on as needed for close interactions like form corrections, and there will be a limited number of masks available at the facility for members who do prefer to wear them but don’t have one available.

Will Village Fitness offer group fitness classes when the facility reopens?

Starting May 18, Village Fitness will offer a reduced number of group fitness classes in-person. These will be available with limited capacity on a first come, first serve basis to start. If it becomes necessary, we are prepared to move to a registration system for popular classes, though as we see more demand for in-house fitness classes, more will be added to the schedule. We will still continue to offer between 20 and 25 Zoom group fitness classes each week as well for members who would like to participate from home.

Training sessions will continue as normal, on a “by appointment” basis. Instructors have been trained on sanitizing procedures, which includes cleaning equipment between each client, modifying classes to eliminate equipment sharing, and more.

How can I access workouts online if I’d prefer to continue working out from home for now?

To access workouts that can be completed from home, visit our website page here, or follow us on Facebook to be notified when new videos are available. As a thank you to our members who are still engaging with us through our online workouts, we’ll be offering double VF Reward Points for members who participate in a virtual class!

When will 24/7/365 access be available?

Upon reopening on May 18, we will temporarily be restricting 24/7/365 access to ensure our team has the ability to sanitize all equipment in the evenings and monitor for proper social distancing protocols. We are tentatively planning to make this access available again on June 1. If for some reason this plan needs to be adjusted based on our findings in our first two weeks of reopening, we’ll be sure to communicate plans to our membership.

Our staffed hours of operation effective May 18 are included below:

Monday – Thursday: 5 AM – 9 PM
Friday: 5 AM – 8 PM
Saturday: 8 AM – 6 PM
Sunday: 10 AM – 3 PM

Will access to the saltwater pool be available?

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has outlined specific procedures pertaining to the cleaning protocol for pool handrails that is being followed explicitly by your Village Fitness team. Additionally, the windows surrounding the pool will be open to allow for better ventilation, so the air temperature may be lower than usual for that reason. The pool area is included in our daily deep cleanings, and maximum occupancy has been temporarily reduced to 12 members to more easily enforce social distancing requirements.

How long will my membership be frozen?

Our reopening plan will allow us to gradually return to normal operations, while ensuring the health and safety of everyone who is welcomed inside. Because we will be offering virtual Zoom classes, in-person classes and training options, and access to strength and cardio equipment, memberships will unfreeze effective June 1, 2020. No membership dues will be billed before that date.

Will the smoothie bar be available on May 18?

Because we’d like our team to focus primarily on sanitizing the facilities, monitoring for social distancing, and continuing to provide excellent work outs for our clients, we will not immediately reopen our smoothie bar. We hope to have it open by June 1, and will communicate final plans to our membership by email.
