What is it?
Fad workouts come and go, but Pilates remains a favorite among fitness fans. Whatever your game, adding Pilates helps keep muscles loose and flexible, making your body less susceptible to injury and allowing it to recuperate while still working your muscles. Pilates is a resistance exercise, although the heart rate will certainly rise until your body gets used to the movements, most of which work your core.
What’s in it for me?
- Burns calories
- Strengthens abdominal muscles
- Improves posture
What should I wear or bring to class?
- Form-fitting clothes are ideal so the instructor can closely watch your movements and help maximize your strength.
- Avoid shorts, if possible, especially ones with wide legs. Yoga pants work perfectly.
- Water and a towel
- Socks, if you want to wear them. Shoes aren’t allowed.
How fit should I be?
People of any age and fitness level can do Pilates. There are exercises for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. During class, your trainer will make modifications to make sure you’re getting the best possible workout.
How often should I take a class?
Once a week can help supplement other physical activities. Two to three times per week is enough to see noticeable changes.
Can I attend classes while pregnant?
